Amigurumi Monkey
This is the monkey I’m working on from “Super Happy Crochet Cute Amigurumi” by Elisabeth Doherty – amigurumi extraordinaire and owner of Gourmet Amigurumi.
Elisabeth recommends Caron Simply Soft in her book but I couldn’t get it here when I first started, but have since discovered that my supplier stocks it in the US – yaaaayyy!!! So I have ordered some colours to do the Funky Bunny doll for my son (my daughter’s bagged the Moneky!) I’m also going to enter him in the Mt Gravatt Show this year – who knows…maybe I’ll win (fingers crossed!)
He’s not finished yet though…still have to do the sandals and soles of the feet and stuff the legs….and cut the star for his chest.

Moda Dea ‘Ticker Tape’ crochet shopping bag
Just wanted to share a pic of one of my projects. It’s a Moda Dea ‘Ticker Tape’ crochet shopping bag. Ticker Tape is a nylon ribbon yarn. the colour I used was Tropical, but I also have ‘Passion Pink’ in my store as a kit.
It feels like crocheting with strips of pantyhose – very soft and stretchy. The pattern was a free one from Coats and Clark’s website.

What else can you do with sock yarn?
Well….the self-striping nature of many sock yarns makes it perfect for accessories like scarves and hats, but many people are put off by the fact that it is usually quite fine (fingering weight), and thus takes awhile to work up.
But while browsing ravelry today, I found a cool toy that is made with sock yarn! It’s called the Celestine dodecahedron. The best thing is it’s quite small and quick to work up and makes a nice change from all those socks! Follow the link and check it out (I just started mine today!). Watch this space for pics!
