Doing the Mattress Stitch

You know how it goes – you have just completed a gorgeous knitted or crocheted garment and now have to sew up all the pieces!  I am working on a crocheted jumper from a Lion Brand pattern at the moment for my daughter and will have to seam it very soon.  So I was excited to see that today’s Knitting Daily newsletter had a tutorial on that very subject!  Here and Here. The tutes are for knitted garments, but I found a couple of tutes for crochet.

From what I can gather, seaming blocks which are edged in single crochet is easier, because you simply pick up one bar of the ‘v’ stitch on the edge (the bar closest to the other piece you are joining).  Take a look at this tute to see what I mean – http://www.crochetcabana.com/tutorials/joining_squares.htm#mattress.

The other method is for seaming unfinished pieces where you have all those bumpy turning chains at the end of each row – http://crochet911.com/crochet911.html

Happy Seaming!

Plymouth Yarn – coming soon!

Announcing that we will now be stocking Plymouth Yarn from the USA.

Plymouth is a really popular brand in the US -available at all good independent yarn retailers – just like me!  :)

I’m particularly loving the Baby Bunny, Alpaca Prima, Ashton, Baby Alpaca DK, Baby Alpaca Lace, Ecco Baby Camel, Happy Feet, LLama Cotton, Mulberry Merino, and Sockin Sox.

I’ll be putting in an order in the next few weeks – anything you like in particular and would like to see in-store?  Let me know.

Meet Dollykins

This is my new yarn store mannequin that I bought yesterday from Absoe business equipment here in Brisbane. She was a bargain!  Brand new but half price – usually $400, I got her for $200.

She’s modelling a shawl I crocheted in banana fibre yarn – hand-dyed.

It’s been a hard day at the store…

Here’s my gorgeous cutie asleep at the wheel after a long day at the store.  LOL!

We’ll be closed over Easter but will be back on deck – Tuesday and Thursday onwards as usual – 14 and 16th of April.
