The American Yarns Great Charity Knit-in 2010
Welcome!
The American Yarns Great Charity Knit-In is an inaugural event in 2010. This year we are supporting Knitting for Brisbane's Needy, who donate hand-knitted/hand-crocheted items to the homeless and needy in and around Brisbane.
This year's Great Charity Knit-In will be held on Saturday 7th August, 2010, at:
American Yarns - Shop 1/265 Blaker Road, Grovely, Brisbane.
The Knit-In starts at 9am and ends at Midnight.
Here is how you can register your team and be in to win some great prizes as well as helping a worthwhile cause!

How it works:
The Knit-In works as a tag-team event. Individuals and/or social groups enter a team of up to 5 people. Registered teams decide which member will knit/crochet at which times during the day (you will need to spread your members out evenly across the 15 hour period). Team members come in and knit/crochet throughout the day, and in return there will be free food and drink (yay!).
But wait, there's more....
There are prizes awarded for the top 3 teams who knit/crochet the most items. There is a scale of points for each completed item (see below).
Prizes are yet to be finalised but will involve gift vouchers at American Yarns, wine and donated prizes from local businesses.

So what do I have to do?
1. Register your team of knitters and/or crocheters (a maximum of 5 people per team). You can register as many teams as you like - you can even give them a name!
The closing date for team entries is Saturday July 31st, 2010.
E-Mail your registration (please include name and contact number of team captain) to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or phone: 07 3851 2608
2. Gather your supplies. Even though the Knit-In was devised by and is being held at American Yarns, you don't have to use our yarns - feel free to bring whatever you need to complete your challenge.
3. Decide on what you might like to knit or crochet (see the list of items and associated points below).

General guidelines and rules
1. Items are to be made in acrylic, or acrylic/wool blend so they may be machine-washed.
2. You may use any thickness yarn you deem appropriate (obviously items made from thick yarn will be completed more quickly).
3. To make it fairer, crocheted items receive fewer points as crocheted items are completed more quickly than knitted ones.
4. When a team member completes his/her shift, incomplete items are to be left in the shop for the next team member to work on/complete.
5. Team members will be given a lanyard at the start of their shift, which must be handed in upon leaving.
