Children’s Crochet Leg Warmers using the Crunchy Stitch

Children’s leg warmers can be worn just for fun or for a purpose. They can be made in whatever colour or colours your wish. Fun items to make and very easy and quick to make, once, you get the hang of this fun Crunchy stitch.

Tools used:

1x ball of Red Heart Super Saver Baby Pink
4mm hook
Darning needle

Abbreviations

HDC – Half Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC – Back Post Double Crochet
SL – Slip St
CH – Chain
ST – Stitch

Pattern
Measure child’s calf, only measure in stand up position, a quick tip to allow for stretching is to take 2 cm off this width and this will make a good size with allowance for stretching. Then measure the length you wish, longer gives more of a floppy look

Chain until desired width around calf of leg.
This pattern is for 28cm width and 24cm length.
Chain 35 join with SL ST to form a circle make sure chain is not twisted at this stage.
HDC into first stitch and continue around until you have 35 HDC, join with SL ST into top of first HDC.
We are now going to create an edge like effect.

Top of Leg Warmer
HDC into back of all ST this round = 35 HDC.

Middle of Leg Warmer
Crunchy Stitch
HDC into first ST, SL ST into next ST, HDC into next ST, SL ST into next ST continue all the way around until end, you can use a marker at this point to count how many rows are needed for your length, for this pattern we crocheted 31 rows of Crunchy Stitch.

Bottom of Leg Warmer
1st Row: FPDC into first ST, BPDC into next ST continue this pattern around, Skip last ST to decrease x 1 ST = 34 ST left.
2nd Row: FPDC into first ST, BPDC into next ST continue this pattern around, Skip last ST to decrease x 1 ST = 33 ST left.
3rd Row: FPDC into first ST, BPDC into next ST continue this pattern around, Skip last ST to decrease x 1 ST = 32 ST left.
4th Row: FPDC into first ST, BPDC into next ST continue this pattern around, Skip last ST to decrease x 1 ST = 31 ST, finish off.
Sew in all ends with darning needle.
