Crochet Minion Pattern – My Minion Story
My first ever minion hand crocheted with Lily Sugar n Cream 100% cotton.
My first completed crochet minion was inspired by watching Despicable Me the movie! This movie not only appeals to children, most adults I know, enjoyed it very much. Looking for a new project to complete, I found the colours needed in my spare bin of Lily Sugar n Cream cotton, which by the way is excellent yarn to crochet toys with…..and started to think of a design similar to the character in the movie.
The body was the easy part, along with his overalls. The eye was also very easy to do, but the legs and arms were a little more difficult. Finally after a few hours of trying a few different ways, I finished my minion.

Minion
Tools:
3mm crochet hook, darning needle.
Yarn:
Lily Sugar n Cream 100% pure cotton
Colours used:
Sunshine
Hot blue
Black
Grey
White
Abbreviations
Ch = chain
SC = single crochet
St = stitch
Sl = slip stitch
BODY
ROUND 1
Create magic circle sc x 6 join into first ch
ROUND 2
Sc x 2 into each st = 12 st
ROUND 3
Sc x 2 into first st, sc x 1 into next st, continue all way around = 18 st’s
ROUND 4
Sc x 2 into first st, sc x 1 into next 2 st, continue all way around = 24 st’s
Continue round 4 until round 18
ROUND 18
Stuff body with stuffing at this point
Start decrease from this round to end and join the bottom.
OVERALLS
ROUND 1
Create magic circle sc x 6 join into first ch
ROUND 2
Sc x 2 into each st = 12 st
ROUND 3
Sc x 2 into first st, sc x 1 into next st, continue all way around = 18 st’s
ROUND 4
Sc x 2 into first st, sc x 1 into next 2 st, continue all way around = 24 st’s
Continue round 4 until round 10 finish off.
Find centre point of overalls and sc x 1 into 7 st’s turn and repeat 4 times to create the bib effect. Do the same on other side of overalls to create two bib effects.
STRAPS
Ch 21 sc x 1 into 2nd st and sc x 1 into each st to end = 20 st. Finish off, sew the overall strap to bib of overalls. Sew black spot onto front of bib.
EYES
Using white yarn
ROUND 1
Create magic circle sc x 6 join into first ch
ROUND 2
Sc x 2 into each st = 12 st
ROUND 3
Sc x 2 into first st sc x 1 into next and repeat around = 18 st
Change to grey colour yarn
ROUND 4
Sc x 1 into each st, in front loop only continue twice around
Sew with black yarn a pupil into centre of white circle.
EYE STRAP
Ch 41 or enough to fit around top of body. Sc x 1 into 2nd st and continue to end = 40 st, finish off – sew onto circle and sew on eye of minion.
ARMS
Ch x 10 sc x 1 into 2nd st, continue to end ch x 1 turn and continue for 4 more rows. Finish off. With darning needle sew together.
HANDS
ROUND 1
Create magic circle sc x 6 join into first ch
ROUND 2
Sc x 1 into each st
ROUND 3
Sc x 1 into each st
Finish off to create a small circle like shape, sew onto end of arms.
FEET
Ch x 7 sc into 2nd, sc x 1 into all way around continue round to next side – repeat around 3 times, the decrease next round – change colour yarn and continue sc x 1 into each stitch 4 more rows.
Once finished all pieces sew all together to body of minion.
